Manchester United vs Aston Villa
England – Premier League
Date: Sunday, 1 December 2019
Kick-off at 16:30 UK / 17:30 CET
Venue: Old Trafford (Manchester).
Manchester United are back in Premier League action on Sunday afternoon as they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford.
United know victory is vital this afternoon if they are to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive, especially with matches against Tottenham and Man City to come over the next seven days.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have dropped 10 points from winning positions in the league this season, just one fewer than they dropped during the entirety of the 2018-19 campaign. However, United have lost just one of their last 24 home games against Villa.
In terms of team news, Fred and Andreas Pereira continue to be selected in the centre of midfield, while James Garner has been named on the bench. Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba miss out through injury.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa Head to head (h2h)
United lead the head-to-head record 98 wins to Villa’s 49, while the Red Devils have triumphed in the last three Premier League meetings between the two teams, including a 1-0 success last time out in April 2016.
Villa did hold the Manchester giants to a 1-1 draw in December 2014, though, while as mentioned, their last victory against their opponents this weekend came in December 2009 at Old Trafford.
That 1-0 triumph is Villa’s only win in their last 41 league meetings with United, however, suffering 30 defeats in the process. What’s more, the Red Devils have been victorious in the last six meetings at Old Trafford with an aggregate score of 18-3.
Manchester United vs Aston Villa Prediction
Manchester United extended their unbeaten streak in all competitions to three games, after their last clash with Sheffield United ended in a 3-3 draw. Despite initially trailing by two goals in that latter matchup, the hosts mustered a stellar comeback in the final twenty minutes with three quick goals.
The Red Devils certainly seemed in line to secure all three points in that matchup, and would have, had it not been for a late equalizer courtesy of substitute Oliver McBurnie. With seventeen points in the bag, United are now sitting ninth on the ladder, one point behind the team above them.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa managed to bring their two-match losing streak to a halt the other week, after the visitors slotted two unanswered goals past the Magpies at home. The newly-promoted side have now garnered no more than three points from their last four games, and are at present, three points adrift of Manchester United.
It is also worth mentioning that the away side have not been coping well in their outings this season and have just one win from their previous six PL trips on the road. Taking into account that they have also been at the losing end in each of their last six visits to Old Trafford, the tag of favorites most certainly goes to Manchester United in this one.
Furthermore, the Red Devils have been a promising bunch on home soil, and have found the back of the net eleven times so far. On the other hand, despite being the worst away side in the cluster, Aston Villa have amassed nine goals to their tally from their outings.
With four of their past five h2h meetings here also unfolding into high scoring affairs, count on goals to be in abundance this week.
